After this overview of the bare data of the two scanners, we will go into more detail. Alternatively, you can simply watch our YouTube video:

1. Price

The Artec Eva belongs with 13,700 € (without further accessories) rather to the upper price range of 3D scanners. The Scoobe3D Precision is also aimed at specialists, but with its price of €4,494, it is clearly the cheaper variant.

Both are cheaper than the two 3D scanners from Creaform that were compared here.

2. User-friendliness

A woman sits contentedly in front of her user-friendly laptop

The Artec Eva 3D Scanner uses the software Artec-Studio to scan and process the data. The software contains an autopilot mode which simplifies the operation.

The Scoobe3D Scanner uses an Android user interface. It is designed to be user-friendly and will be familiar to you from your smartphone. The pre-installed Scan App makes scanning easier. The Scoobe3D WebApp allows previously created 3D models to be downloaded and shared on any external device with internet connection.

3. Mobility

A businessman uses a mobile device on the road to illustrate mobility while a tram passes in the background.

Although in principle, both scanners are mobile and therefore suitable for use on the go, there are clear differences:

The Artec Eva Scanner requires a powerful computer or tablet and, according to the data sheet, only supports Windows as the operating system. The Eva is also operated with a 12V, 48W PSU, which limits the mobility. A use far away from any power source is possible by purchasing a battery pack, which in turn creates additional costs.

The Scoobe3D takes a different approach in this regard: The scanner has the size of a smartphone and therefore fits in every pocket. It comes with an integrated battery which is charged via USB-C. Scanning also works without an additional computer or tablet. Therefore, the scanner is incredibly mobile and can be used at your favorite place.

4. Accuracy and Resolution

With the accuracy of the scans both scanners are in the upper class. Both achieve a 3D accuracy of 0.1 mm. While the 3D resolution of the Artec Eva is still very good at 0.2 mm, this is also 0.1 mm for the Scoobe.

5. Pre-treatment

Usually the 3D scan starts with the pre-treatment of the scan object.

The Artec Eva Scanner uses the Structured Light Technology, which is well-suited to capture matt surfaces with texture. In order to scan objects with smooth or shiny surfaces, the object should be treated with chalk spray. We have had good experiences with the Dupli-Color chalk spray.

The Scoobe3D scans even reflective materials without pre-treatment, since it uses Polarization in addition to Photogrammetry- and Time-of-Flight technologies.

6. Post-processing

A laptop on which a 3D model from mechanical engineering is processed in CAD

The post-processing of the Artec Eva happens in the Artec Studio software. You can use automatic settings to create a 3D model from the determined data in a short amount of time.

With the Scoobe3D, the creation of the 3D model is conducted on a server. After you have scanned your object, it is processed to a seamless 3D model within 15 minutes. This means that you don't have to worry about anything after scanning: The 3D model can be exported directly and used further.

7. Conclusion

Most people will be familiar with the use of Structured Light in the scanning process. But sometimes it is worth thinking outside the box to get even more bang for your buck.

Artec Eva:

The Artec Eva Scanner is a recommendable scanner, which produces very good 3D scans. However, the mobility is limited due to its weight, size and the need for a second device. The handling of the scanner and the corresponding software also requires some know-how.

In addition to applications in medicine, dental technology and pathology, Structured Light Scanners such as the Artec Eva can be used excellently in industry. The 3D scanner is also helpful in the design process for new products.

Scoobe3D:

The Scoobe3D Scanner is a user-friendly professional 3D Scanner that delivers precise results with high accuracy of up to 0.1 mm. You don't need any in-depth knowledge or specific skills to use the Scoobe3D. Any beginner can operate it. The scanner is a portable all-in-one solution ,so that you only need this device to create a 3D model.

Another advantage of this industrial 3D Scanner is that scanning complex structures is very easy. Regardless of the surface texture, whether reflective, matt or rough - the Scoobe3D delivers seamless 3D models.

The application areas range from 3D documentation to the duplication or adaptation of a product. This scanner is particularly specialized for reverse engineering. The Scoobe3D is already being used extensively in the fields of mechanical engineering, industrial engineering and orthopedics/prosthetics.
